I love this. Please mentor, teach me your technique :)
Good morning, Paige. :)
ReplyDeleteI did my best to answer this technique question a couple of posts ago. My best advice is to get a good photo editing software package and then have fun playing with it for years.
When I did my first show, a very nice woman became quite taken with "communion". She asked me how I created it, so I explained as best I could. She then tried to convince me that I needed to start giving workshops for women, with the goal being that, at the end of the class, the participants would be able to do what I do. I tried to explain how following intuition couldn't be taught in a single class and so she then tried to talk me into having classes and just allowing the participants to watch me as I create! ha
So then...I had to tell her that it is a form of meditation for me and that to have observers and to be trying to explain what I'm doing while I'm doing it would pretty much guarantee that whatever work resulted would not be up to par. She accepted that I wasn't interested, but she didn't buy into what I was trying to tell her.
This is all a very long way of saying that what I do isn't really about technique.
The components of this piece are: a photo of my hand and arm in front of an acrylic painting I did last year and a photo of a hydrangea I took at Krohn when I did the crane release. I used both Arcsoft and Photoshop for cloning, layering, erasing, filters, color and texture.
Beautiful quote. Thank you!
Happy Sunday ~:)
Wow! Thanks for explaining your process, I'm of course not interested in the steps you take so much, that is your art form, but I love to hear how the journey began. Like here it was a photo of *your* arm, painting and hydrangea photo that started the process.
ReplyDeleteI love how the hydrangea creates such a nice, puffy tree. Your hand and arm truly make it awesome, though.
The hydrangeas at Krohn were spectacular. Along with the tulips, they assaulted my senses with SPRING! Given this very wintry winter we're having, that visit was very much like a little slice of heaven.
ReplyDeleteFor fun, I just asked my seven year old how she would explain what I do. She said, "She just uses her imagination." Her favorite of these is the black and white, which is surprising because she generally chooses all of the most colorful pieces. Her title for that piece is "Puffy Hand". :)
Exquisitely creative, Misha dear! It strikes me that trees are the metaphoric hands of the world, linking all regions where life flourishes, waving in the winds, and a thousand other visuals. Very original to compose this delightful tree this way, and very cool to explain your process even though for me it is purely visceral and poetic intake. With a good dose o' magic.
ReplyDeleteI am always honored when you allow me to partake of your work, via the music. Thank you so much for that. I hope you have a beautiful day followed by a very nice work week. 888
Good morning, Rick ~:)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you when I was noting the process, imagining you looking away to preserve the magic. Pay no attention to that woman behind the curtain!
This hand as tree has a hold on me. If I can get the children to sit still long enough, I have other ideas...much like the wired trees, I suspect there will be more of these. *starts imagining wired hand trees*
:)
I've said it before and I'll say it again (and again...) this piece of yours is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Your generosity in allowing me to use it as much as I have is SO very much appreciated!
Happy days to you, too.
<3
Misha, you are so incredibly talented. I look forward to your project everyday and always find myself blown away!
ReplyDeleteHeather, you are so sweet and generous.
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way watching your project unfold. Such a gift!
Thank you for sharing the journey with me.

It's the Arcsoft I'm unfamiliar with...I will google. I can see how all of it is done except the lines within the hand...the groovy effect ;) Thanks, Mish, I fully understand that creating within the programs is self expression and to teach that fully would be impossible.
ReplyDeletePaige, the groovy hand bit is the digital painting. I use the smudge tool for that, at least that's what it's called in Arcsoft.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
My breathe caught as I looked at the first photo! So AWESOME!!! And then I recognized Rick's music and I melted into both the art and the music! FANTASTIC!!! One of my FAVORITES (can't say my favorite because there is too much talent, creativity, talent (did I type that twice?), inspiration and hard work and time devoted to all...)
