day 196 ~ talk like an Egyptian

"As to deserving, know that the gift of heaven is free;
this gift of Knowledge is so great that no effort whatever could hope to 'deserve' it."

~ Egyptian Proverb

~ sarcophagus ~

This piece originated from a photo I took of Ankh Takelot's sarcophagas, which resides at Pyramid Hill Park. It is estimated that Ankh Takelot made his passage into the eternal sometime between 944 B.C. and 732 B.C. The hieroglyphics are prayers for safe passage. To look at this piece and see how the wood and ink have held up so brilliantly is an inspiration.

(The addition of the tree is mine.)

  1. hieroglyphics have always fascinated me... the origin of writing too... how prayers can have power written as well as said... or activated when in motion like the prayer & wishes on wheels or flags... perhaps we can write wishes, hopes dreams, prayers on leafs & let the wind activate them... hmmm. brainstorming for another day... Thanks! You just inspired a project for me with this post. ♥

  2. It doesn't get much sweeter than that, Beth.

    The fact that these hieroglyphics are still inspiring after thousands of years is a lovely reflection of the eternal.

    Have fun with your project. Can't wait to see!

  3. The matchmaking of Egyptian and Mishaian mojo seems decreed here. I love the piece. I also love that the word "sonarick" greeted me as the pass for commenting!

  4. Mishaian mojo, I like it!

    "sonarick" is even better still. Maybe that's blogger's way of saying, "welcome back"?

    Big welcome home hug heading atcha ~:)
